What's included
4 live meetings
2 hrs 40 mins in-class hoursClass Experience
Whether you are looking to review place value or accelerate your learning on the topic. This class will guide students in learning place value skills up to the hundred thousands place. Over the course of the class, we will cover a new specific skill related to place value each week. Course Overview: Week 1- Writing Numbers (Using base-ten numerals, number names, expanded form, and on a place value chart) Week 2- Rounding Numbers Week 3- Comparing and Ordering Numbers Week 4- Composing and Decomposing Numbers (Modeling using base ten blocks, place value chart & disks, etc.) Course Format: This course will follow a gradual release of learning (I do, We do, You do). I will model the skill for students, then we will practice the skill together, and finally, students will practice the skill independently. The class will be presented using Pear Deck, so students can interact and answer questions. It can be helpful for students to use either a separate device for Pear Deck and the live Zoom lesson OR use split-screen. The Pear Deck link will be provided on the day of class in the Outschool classroom and in the live lesson chat. After each live lesson students will have the option to complete a Google Form quiz to demonstrate their learning. This 1-5 question quiz will assess their learning. I will give individual feedback before the start of the next lesson. The link for this form will be provided at the end of the lesson in chat and it will be posted in the classroom.
Learning Goals
Students will read and write multi-digit whole numbers using base-ten numerals, number names, and expanded form.
Students will use place value understanding to round multi-digit whole numbers to any place.
Students will compare two multi-digit numbers based on meanings of the digits in each place, using >, =, and < symbols to record the results of comparisons.
Students will put multi-digit numbers in order from least to greatest and greatest to least.
Students will recognize that in a multi-digit whole number, a digit in one place represents ten times what it represents in the place to its right.
Students will be able to compose and decompose numbers.
