Class Experience

I love building with bricks! It is such a great way for children to be creative. This class has a lot of fun elements to it.
* First, there is the show and tell part. Learners will bring one of their favorite "brick builds" and they will get to have a moment in the spotlight while they get to show off their creation. They will get to practice speaking in front of their peers. They will also get to practice listening. Learners will be encouraged to ask questions to each other about their creations. This will also be a time to practice being respectful and encouraging to others about their brick creations.
*We will have a game time that will lead into our theme of the day.
*Then, each class will end with a 5 minute challenge. Each learner needs to bring their collection of bricks, and I will give them a surprise challenge of something to build in a short time (typically about 5 minutes). We will quickly share our challenge creations. Each week there will be a different challenge.
July 13 - Build mini figures with various emotions.
July 20 - Build a dog - we will do this one step by step.
July 27 - Build a dinosaur or a unicorn.
August 3 - Build an airplane
Learning Goals
I want each learner to:
*Gain confidence in speaking in front of their peers.
*Learn how to verbalize their thoughts.
*Be a courteous listener.
*Be an active listener.
*To encourage others.
*Have a moment to shine by showing off their creativity.
*Be challenged to create something new in a short time period.
*Meet friends with common interests.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Melissa Lohman. I have a degree in Elementary Education. I also have a special endorsement in early childhood education, language arts, and Spanish. I have taught kindergarten all the way up to 8th grade Spanish. Teaching is my passion, and I am a people person! I absolutely love seeing young learners as they make new connections and seeing the joy that they experience as they learn, it really fills me up!
I currently teach ESL online in another country on the other side of the world. In addition to teaching ESL, I teach 8th grade Spanish, and I am the part time early elementary children's director at my church.
I truly love to teach, and I've been a teacher for 22 years! When I'm not teaching I love to travel with my family, and I also enjoy learning new languages. I've been blessed to see over 30 countries and almost every state.
I look forward to teaching your child soon!
Thank you!
Melissa
