Class Experience

Beginner Level
please request a time/day you would like a class

This class uses the Planet Zoo game (available through Steam or Xbox) where you house and look after various animals from around the world.

Students can choose from lots of different animals (depending on what DLC they have) such as elephants, snakes, lions, bears and much more. Enclosures must be built with the right environment and staff assigned to look after them. They will also need janitors, vets and shop workers. Also the zoo will require the right infrastructure to keep it running smoothly such as toilets, shops, generators, decorations and more.

Planet zoo also allows you to build the park how you want, land can be transformed, every object placed where you want and buildings can be changed to how you would like them. the only limit is their imagination.

Students will learn to keep staff happy, visitors fed/entertained, the animals looked after and balance the budget.

I will be screensharing the game and also offering students to screenshare there game. I will also encourage students to talk about ideas they might have or any help they and me can give to each other. As this is only a small class there will be plenty of opportunity to ask questions. Students can join at anytime and no experience of the game is needed.
Learning Goals
Students will learn to look after animals, keep visitors to the zoo happy (entertainment, cafes, toilets and shops) and look after the staff (keeping them happy, paying them wages, and providing training).
Also students will need to build the infrastructure to keep the zoo running smoothly. This includes shops, paths, decorations, enclosures and power.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
I have been working with children (Wales, UK) for about 20 years in various settings.

I have attended a Rudolf Steiner teacher training course and also qualified as an after school club leader. Mostly I have experience with home educated Children of all ages in a voluntary capacity. For 15 years I helped run a social group for home educating families and for the past 10 years (still doing this) I have helped with a large family camp for home educating families. This has involved a bit of everything. I've helped with animation classes, sport event and art classes. I have also taught making clay bread ovens and making bamboo pipes from bamboo. For the past couple of years I've helped out with a forest school club, mainly teaching the children (8-11 years) string tricks and making survival bracelets.

My hobby is art which I've been doing on and of for 20 years. For the past year I've been teaching art online classes to a group of home educated children as what I mostly enjoy is passing on skills (whatever the subject) to others. But beware sometimes my cat joins in the online sessions!
