Description
Class Experience
Students will create a native beehouse to provide a habitat for native bees. Students will discuss the vital role bees play in our ecosystems and agriculture.
My work with bees and other organisms began as a child. Since then my passion for pollinators has led me to teach environmental science as a public school teacher and to homeschool organizations. I have also had the privilege of working with many community organizations including the Girl Scouts, YMCA, STEAM clubs, and more. As a beekeeper, I enjoy sharing my knowledge of Earth's precious pollinators with learners of all ages.
Learners will receive follow-up activities that they can enjoy. These materials include a bee identification journal (for nature walks), and instructions to make a bee house out of recyclable materials.
To build a native bee house students will need the following: *A soup can, milk/juice carton or plastic water bottle (only 1 of these items is needed) *A paper grocery bag *String *Scissors *ruler *tape *pencil *crafting materials of their choice to decorate the bee house
Leaners will be assessed on their contributions to class discussions.
1 hour per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Students will be using scissors and other crafting materials. Parents are encouraged to assist learners as needed.
