Class Experience
Students will learn how to build a detailed 3D neighborhood including homes, people, cars, trees, and more while exploring architecture along the way! Each lesson will begin by learning new SketchUp tools. I will be going over each new tool, how it works, and what it will be used for in regards to the 3D building model. Week 1: Introduction to SketchUp Objective: Student will learn how to build basic building structures. Student will practice with each tool that is introduced. Student will learn architectural vocabulary and how it applies to the houses. Week 2: More advanced tools and concepts Objective: Student will learn more advanced tools, how to manipulate objects, and add windows. Student will show that they have mastered the basic tools. Week 3: Components Objective: Student will learn to create a component. Student will show that they know how to manipulate and create a variety of objects. Week 4: Detail Work Objective: Student will learn how to create details for their houses. Student will show that they are able to create a variety of different details. Week 5: Detail Work Continued Objective: Student will continue to learn how to create details for their buildings. Student will show that they are able to create a variety of different details. Week 6: Detail Work Completed Objective: Student will learn the finishing details for their buildings. Student will show that they are able to create a variety of different details. Week 7: Texturing Objective: Student will learn how to texture their buildings and continue learning architectural concepts such as scale. Week 8: People, trees, cars, and more Objective: Student will learn how to import people, trees, cars, and other components from the 3D warehouse. The completed neighborhood should be submitted to the Outschool classroom. *Please note, grades (letter/percentage) are not issued for this course. **The closing date for classes will be one week after the last session. Work submitted after the close date will not receive feedback. For interaction: Learners will post their work in the classroom to share with one another. Learners will ask each other questions and be able to give tips and demonstrations to explore new and innovative ways to create objects. Learners are able to post screenshots in the classroom to receive feedback from me as well as other learners. The more we share, the more we will learn. I will be checking the classroom every Monday and Thursday to give feedback and to answer questions. I look forward to seeing all of the wonderful creations.

Hello! My name is Jan and I am so excited to work with your child. I have a Bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University in Graphic Design and 20 years of experience working with children in the classroom. I am TESOL certified and have been teaching online for the last year. Before teaching online, my husband and I owned a S.T.E.A.M. Innovation Center where we taught camps and classes. I am excited to bring these camps and classes to Outschool. I love working with children. My favorite thing to do is to play games with my kids. I have three children. Mason is 16 and a wonderful musician, Grant is 10 and loves science, Emily is 7 and loves climbing and running. I am looking forward to having fun with your child in my classroom.
