Fireflies aren’t the only insects to light up the room. In this class, we will be shining the light on some of the insect species that communicate with bioluminescence and mimic the firefly.

What will be taught? *Insect Species: Eastern Firefly, Glowing Click Beetles, Railroad Worms, Longhorn Beetle, Yellow - Bordered Flower Buprestid, Soldier Beetle, and Glowing Cockroaches *Bioluminescence *Fluorescence *Art activity that helps exhibit a firefly with bioluminescence: Draw and label parts of an insect on cardstock. Paint the abdomen of the insect with glow in the dark paint. What topics will be covered? What is bioluminescence? Why do animals have this adaptation? How can I identify different insect species with bioluminescence? What are the three main body segments of an insect? Which body segment makes a visible glow and exhibits bioluminescence. What is the difference between fluorescence and bioluminescence? What is the class structure? A safe environment where students can discuss their ideas. A learning environment where a student can have fun while achieving academic success. How will I teach?
