Class experience
US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 1
This class is perfect for young learners who have a curiosity about bugs and insects. We will talk a lot about how to tell if a bug is a true insect, learn about bugs that are beneficial to humans, talk about bugs that we should avoid, and have fun playing with and examining our toy bugs. (See the "Materials" section below for a list of learning aids recommended to accompany this class.) Prior to the class most weeks, I will upload various materials for your learner to the Outschool...
Learners should be able to quickly recite what a bug has to have to be classified as an insect. They should come away respecting the value of bugs and insects in our world, and (hopefully) not be squeamish about seeing or encountering a bug.

These supplies will be helpful to reinforce what we are learning in class, but are not mandatory. Toy bugs - I recommend the TOOBS Insect Collection. Inexpensive magnifying glass Crayons Ruler Pencil & Paper See-through, non-breakable container with tight-fitting lid for voluntary bug collection.
If students choose to collect a bug for show and tell in class, a parent MUST accompany them in the hunting and capture of that bug. Bugs should be placed in a see-through, non-breakable container with a tight-fitting lid, and must be released outside as soon as that class period is over. Students may not collect spiders or stinging insects, and if you are unsure - leave it alone. This activity is voluntary!
