Class Experience

Bucket drumming is for everyone!  You don't need any experience to learn to play rhythm patterns on a bucket.  You will just need a bucket and some sticks that are the same size and thickness.  Rhythm sticks, drum sticks, or even round-handled kitchen utensils will work for you here.  This class is fun, small-group sized, and fast.  You will learn how to play several different rhythm patterns and learn to look at notes to read and play the rhythm patterns. Weekly Schedule:
Week of January 2-8:  Mini-lesson on reading/playing notation; practice rhythm patterns in isolation, then play with the video, Winter Rhythm Play Along - Reindeer Sled; practice rhythm patterns in isolation, then play with the video, Martin Luther King Jr. Day Play Along
Week of January 9-15:  Mini-lesson on reading/playing notation; review the previous rhythms in isolation; practice new rhythm patterns in isolation, then play with the video, Let It Snow! Rhythm Play Along; practice new rhythm patterns in isolation, then play with the video, Snow Day Rhythm Play Along
Week of January 16-22:  Mini-lesson on reading/playing notation; review the previous rhythms in isolation; practice new rhythm patterns in isolation, then play with the video, Winter Themed Play Along
Week of January 23-29:  Mini-lesson on reading/playing notation; review the previous rhythms in isolation; practice new rhythm patterns in isolation, then play with the video, Valentine's Day Percussion Play Along

Learning Goals

Students will learn to look, listen, and play short rhythm patterns.  Students will be introduced to reading rhythms by looking at musical notation.  At the end of each isolated rhythm practice, we will apply rhythms and play along with a real song.

Supply List

A bucket to hit and sticks to play with are required.  Please have a bucket and not a pot or pan.  You will thank me later!  :)

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.

Sources

The learner will learn how to access the class slides in class. They will need to access the Outschool classroom and pull up the slides to practice each day. The play-along videos they need for practice will be embedded in the class slides. Everything they need is provided in the class slides. Learners also have the option to watch their previous classes and play along with the class. Printing is not an option provided, but parents who can devise a way to print slides are welcome to do so. Freepik, various free websites for the musical notation images, teacher expertise/knowledge, and at least one bucket drumming video from YouTube per class are used as sources. Class slides cite all of the sources on that slide. Main sources are Elementary Groove Tracks and Bucket Drumming. net, which are used by paid subscription.
