#CreativeClass Experience
#creative Welcome to the world of musical theater performance! In the ongoing class, we will meet weekly to discuss a musical theater performance. Please note that each class can be taken separately and does not build on any other classes, so you can drop in and out as needed! It is great for homeschool students and for students who attend brick and mortar schools but who want to learn more about Broadway, West End, performing and technical aspects of theater production. At the start of class, we will watch a musical theater video clip that is about 5-10 minutes long. Learners will look at the clip from both a technical perspective and an artistic perspective. How did the actor convey the meaning effectively? How could the actor have delivered more emotional punch in the delivery? We will analyze the singing technique as well. We will look at how lighting and costuming were used effectively or ineffectively. We will discuss any spatial challenges the performers faced, and any other technical aspect of the clip that contributed to or took away from the effectiveness of the performance. This class is designed to appeal to students who are passionate about this subject and crave more knowledge about it as a fellow musical theater enthusiast. What will be taught? Analysis of the technical and artistic side of musical theater performance What topics will you cover? Vocal techniques, Acting techniques, Artistic interpretation How is your class structured? Introductions, Watch a clip, student/teacher discussion How will you teach? After watching the performance, I will guide and facilitate a primarily student led discussion What's your teaching style? Interactive from start to finish How much will learners get to interact with you and each other (mention specifics like: lecture, games, slides, video clips, discussion)? Video clips and discussion. Any required experience or knowledge learners need? A passion for musical theater is the only requirement. Week 1: Topic-Defying Gravity from Wicked. Theme-Great theatrical moments. Other Details
Parental Guidance
The clips that we watch in this class will be age appropriate. However, some of the musicals we cover may include subject matter in the rest of the story line that is emotionally complex and will require learners to think critically. Sometimes, learners will need to be comfortable discussing complicated issues that some musicals touch upon. #Creative
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
