Class Experience

Every week we will meet, read, discuss, write and craft about the fantastic book of the week. I will encourage children to read along with me, answer questions about the story, tell me the bits they find fun and generally realise their early enjoyment of literature.

Favourite British authors include Julia Donaldson, Michael Rosen, Eric Carle, Janet and Allan Ahlberg and Beatrix Potter - to name just a few!

Carrying on from this, the children will be encouraged to write what they can, according to their ability. We will discuss possible words and sentences we may like to write. Your child may enjoy being independent and sounding out the phonemes independently, or they may be beginners in learning to hear the initial letter sound. I will be using a phonics alphabet card to help the children see all the phonemes. This visual aid supports them to become independent writers.

For further critique, maybe you could send a picture of the writing for me to mark outside of the lesson.

It is important to note that this class is only suitable for children who have learned their sounds or letter names and are now learning to spell and sound out words. Your child must be able to form their letters independently to follow my instructions when spelling.

If you join the class and would like books that are further down the list instead of the ones I have chosen, just message me. The list below is not set in stone!
