US Grade 3 - 5
When you read a great book, you can't help but talk about it! Each week students will have the opportunity to share with their classmates about the (age appropriate) book that they are reading. Book recommendations are a great way to practice public speaking skills in an environment that is casual and fun. Summarizing is also great for boosting comprehension skills. Students will practice sharing the title and author of their book and summarizing the plot. Students will use question stems to ask each other questions about their books. I will also bring a new book as well as author or genre recommendations to go along with it. We will talk about authors, style, themes, character development, and writers' craft. Plus, we will have fun! This Book Club can be joined at any time as each class discussion stands on its own. I can't wait to hear about the great books you are reading!
Learning Goals
Students will build community around reading great books, talking about literature, and giving recommendations to each other. They will build their social skills as they practice interacting with each other in a semi-structured discussion.

I am passionate about building authentic positive relationships with my students. By modeling healthy relationships and creating a safe place for them to flourish, I hope to give my students life skills beyond the content I teach. I create safe, inviting spaces for kids to build relationships with other students, practicing the skills of empathy in the context of a caring community.
My husband and I have two daughters and two dogs. I love to read, bake, and knit (but not all at the same time!). I can't wait to see you in class!
