Bring History to Life With American Girl Dolls (Flex Schedule)

Class Experience
Each week learners will study a different time period of American history through American Girl Dolls. Students will learn about the topic of the week using engaging activities on Nearpod. Then students will play movie BINGO while watching the American Girl Doll movie of the week. Students will be on the lookout for historical items and figures they learned about on their movie BINGO card. After the lesson and movie, students will have fun playing an exciting game with their classmates on Quizziz. Learners will also make a craft for each historical topic and share it on Flipgrid with their classmates. In addition, they will use Flipgird when studying the Turn of the Century and World War II to play a game of I Have Who Has and complete a virtual historical scavenger hunt. Learners will also have the opportunity to attend virtual field trips and analyze artwork from the historical time periods. Hello! I am Teacher Colleen! I am honored to have this opportunity to teach your child! I am passionate about history, reading, writing, and travel. My husband and I have a teenage daughter and one cuddle bug dog named Hope.
I have been an educator for almost 20 years. Currently, I teach 4th and 5th grade advanced content in English Language Arts. I begin my day teaching students online in China. I earned a master’s degree in teaching and I am certified in regular education, special education, gifted, and STEM education. I am also working on my specialist's degree in curriculum.
It does not matter if I am teaching students online across the world or in my brick and motor classroom, the common denominator is connections. These authentic connections lead to more student engagement and learning. I hope that from my courses, I can spark a passion for reading, history, and writing in your child.
