Bridges and Boundaries - Setting Your Own Course

Powerpoint slides will be projected behind me as virtual images while we discuss 3 Major concepts in more detail. First - what does "Moving Forward" look like for you? Consider where you want to go and what you want to accomplish. Teacher will employ the Socratic method and students can choose to answer verbally, chat in the chat box, or ruminate silently. Second - choosing the Bridges needed to cross the gaps to get where you want to go. We'll discuss common misconceptions (hint: people are not bridges!) as well as unusual sources for learning. We'll also discuss motivations and managing expectations. Third we'll discuss boundaries for protecting you on the journey. We'll look at what might stop someone from reaching their goals and describe boundaries that could protect that person. We'll talk about flexible vs. firm boundaries. Boundaries that aren't written down ahead of time are more likely to be compromised, so students will be encouraged to write down their boundaries and talk them over with a trusted adult. Last but not least we'll end with a thought about Rerouting - how destinations change, or mistakes happen - so what to do if you need to recalculate your route.

Teacher expertise and credentials
I've been a teacher for 12 years and have worked with learners in the high school setting predominantly. I find that often a student's goals are larger than their ability to achieve those goals. Breaking them down into manageable steps provides actual mapping for how to get there! It's a skill that isn't being taught enough to the youth of today.
