Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
Is your child ready to have fun this St. Patrick's Day? Do they love brick building?

Come join the fun as we connect literacy and brick building. This class is designed to be a great way to engage your child with a laugh out loud St. Patrick's Day story using the book, "The Gingerbread Man and the Leprechaun Loose at School."

The class will begin with learners sharing something they know about leprechauns or St. Patrick's Day to activate our thinking before the story. We'll then start with a St. Patrick's Day song to tie in music and movement. As an experienced teacher and librarian, I'll be reading the book aloud to our class, stopping as we go to discuss the story, make predictions, and connections. We'll explore how this Gingerbread is determined to catch that sneaky Leprechaun. Your child may even have a few laugh out loud moments, especially when we encounter the green toilet water!

After we have interacted with the story, we'll start our building. Using bricks, we'll brainstorm ideas for how to catch the leprechaun. Learners will have time to talk and interact with each other about their idea and break out rooms may be utilized.

Each learner will then be encouraged to add detail/decorations to their build to help foster creativity! Students will have time at the end to share their creation with the class (if they wish to share).

Please note:
To add to the festive fun, each child is invited to wear green or orange or other St. Patrick's Day accessories (headbands, hats, boas, etc.) but is not required to participate in the class.

Profile
Teacher expertise and credentials
As a teacher and librarian, I love to share the joy of reading with others. Truly engaging children in a story is a special skill, which I work to do through my animated and enthusiastic style. Part of my job as an experienced educator is to help cultivate that love of reading in children and helping them to see the magic that can happen when reading! I work to draw each child into the story through asking questions, making connections, and predictions which allows for a very active, or rather interactive, experience. I then love to tie in activities, crafts, or other extensions that can help connect the story to other areas of learning! This class will be a great blend of music, building, and a story so don't miss out!
