In this class, students will learn about: - Checking in with their body's physiologic responses to big emotions include breath, heart rate, and other sensations - How the brain responds to big emotions - How we can use our breath to calm the body and mind to better respond to life's stressors - Specific breathing strategies to practice to elicit calm This one time class will be taught live with ample opportunities to interact with the teacher and fellow learners. Class time includes physical exercise to aid with tuning in to our body's physiology; demonstration and practice in assessing pulse, respiration, and other sensations; slides with images and animations describing the relevant anatomy; and teacher demonstration and student practice of 5 simple breathing techniques that elicit a relaxation response. As a teacher, I strive to have all students interact throughout my class with participation in movement, practicing breathing strategies, reflecting and discussing their own experiences, and of course asking questions.

Parental Guidance
This class requires movement. Students should have a safe space to move their bodies without risk of injury and wear clothing that they can exercise in. Shoes or a non slip surface are recommended and students may wish to have a water bottle close by when participating in exercise. While practicing breathing strategies is generally considered safe, children with specific respiratory concerns should be monitored by an adult for safety.
