Note:

I have recently accepted a full-time position and now teach very few classes on Outschool. At this time, I am unable to accommodate class requests. Thank you!

Well-behaved women seldom make history, and in this class we will meet 10 defiant women in world history who didn't ask permission to make their mark on the world. Students will learn about some well-known troublemakers like Malala Yousafazi and Marie Curie, but also about lesser-known rebel-rousers such as Emmeline Pankhurst and Ada Lovelace.

I will use a self-made PowerPoint with visuals, interesting anecdotes and mini-quizzes to introduce these women to the students. An optional handout will be provided that can be filled out during class to help students remember and synthesize the information. We will discuss the traits that these women posses and how these qualities helped them to make a difference in their country's history. I will finish class with a discussion about how these women can inspire us to practice perseverance and resilience in our own lives.

I am a passionate educator and am known for my energetic, storytelling teaching style. I love sharing this information with students!

Here is a full list of women we will study, in no particular order:

Mary Wollstonecraft
Greta Thurnberg
Malala Yousafazi
Marie Curie
Emmeline Pankhurst
Ada Lovelace
Qiu Jin
Elizabeth Blackwell
Catherine the Great
Marina Raskova and "The Night Witches"

Other Details

Parental Guidance
The women discussed in this class led often unconventional lives and at times had shocking behavior. We also discuss the ancient Chinese practice of foot-binding, and I show a picture of a woman's feet (as they look when when the bindings are taken off) to help students understand. It may be hard for some students to see it.
