Breaking the Code With Orton-Gillingham for Beginning Readers
Each 1 hour session will be personalized to the learner. Using the Orton-Gillingham progression, students will feel success from the beginning. We will cover all letter sounds and move on to the seven syllables - the tools for reading.

Mastery Evaluation
1-2 hours per week. Students will be given techniques to practice during the week, such as syllabication and blending exercises. They will always have 1-2 sight words to work on mastering and unknown letter sounds. Often, word lists will be included as review of the skills we covered during our session.Class Experience
US Grade Kindergarten - 3
Beginner Level
Learning should be fun and interactive. When working 1-on-1, the needs of each student are what guides our session. We will use games, songs and letter tiles to progress through the Orton-Gillingham approach. Our one hour will include decoding exercises, sight word-work, reading appropriately leveled books, encoding and writing. Most of our time will be review with one skill added, as able.
Learning Goals
Students will master all consonant and vowel names and sounds.
Students will understand the technique of blending individual sounds to make words.

Learning Needs
Students with literacy difficulty thrive with a direct, systematic approach to reading and writing. Empowering students with 90% review and 10% new material encourages them to use the tools to read and write letter sounds effectively.

Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
