In this class about hieroglyphics, we will learn some basic information about ancient Egypt and the development of hieroglyphics. We will read an article about the topic, watch a very short film about it and then spend the rest of the class learning to read and write in hieroglyphics. After we learn a little bit, you will have a code to break and then, with a partner, you will create a message for the rest of the class to decipher. Come join us as we learn a little about Ancient Egypt and have fun writing in an ancient code.
Learning Goals
Students will learn about the geography of Ancient Egypt.
Students will learn what hieroglyphics were, how they developed and how they were made.
Students will learn what Egyptians used in their natural surroundings to help them write hieroglyphics.
Students will then learn how to read and write with hieroglyphics.Other Details
Parental Guidance
We will be working in the break out rooms that are optional with Zoom. I will be rotating between the rooms, but I will not be able to oversee the room the whole time while they are with their partner.
Supply List
I will need you to print out the following items. It is not absolutely necessary in order to be in the class as you can have it pulled up on another screen or write on regular paper, but it does add to the experience of the class if these are printed for the student
