In this class, we will briefly cover what kind of dinosaur Tyrannosaurus rex is, when it lived, and aspects of its biology. I will summarize the two new scientific papers: one that split Tyrannosaurus rex into 3 species, and one that disagrees with that split. The class will begin with 15 minutes of 'lecture' using slides and then open the class to discussion and questions for 15 minutes. This class is aimed at learners that are considered 'dino-experts.' These include learners that have memorized many dinosaur encyclopedias and are craving information about how the science of paleontology is done and current discussions in the field.
Learning Goals
Students will learn what kind of dinosaur Tyrannosaurus rex is, when it lived, and some aspects of its biology.
Students will also be introduced to current methods of evolutionary tree analysis and how introduction of different factors has led to the split of T. rex into 3 species, and to the disagreement with that split.
