Class Experience

This class will include new vocabulary, conversation practice, and information on the culture in Brazil. Each session will have a different emphasis or topic. Depending on the subject there might be games, slides, or discussion. The students do not need to be fluent in Portuguese as this is a beginner class but a desire to learn the language and learn more about Brazil is necessary. This class may also have some question and answer sessions with Vicki about her time living in Brazil. Students will have the opportunity to interact with each other and with the teacher during each class.
Current events or holidays in Brazil will drive the emphasis or topic of the weekly class. For example: In March we will talk about the large chocolate eggs children receive and who typically gives them to the kids. During January we will discuss typical travel destinations for Brazilians. Some weeks we will discuss food, other weeks how some vocabulary changes in different parts of Brazil.

Example Classes:
How to introduce yourself
Rice and Beans, the staple food
What is a Paulista?
Soccer
Hygiene in Brazil
Where do most people live?
How is school different or the same?
Cooking out in Brazil
Current Holiday in Brazil
Learning Goals
Students will learn more about the language and culture of Brazil. They will be exposed to new vocabulary, the culture, and the Brazilian viewpoint of various things.

Parental Guidance
Brazil is a tropical country and sometimes modesty is different than the USA standard. This class might have a beach scene or talk about Carnaval. I will pick more conservative pictures but need to stay true to the culture of the country.
