In this class, students will be challenged to compete in many brainteaser activities that will help them enhance their critical thinking and math skills. For the mental math brainteaser, these types of problems with help students practice multi-step math problems while challenging themselves to do it mentally. We may also play games to compete against the other students to see who is the fastest at these mental problems. For the challenge activities, students will be given a question or problem and must figure out a way to solve it. These types of problems will include more hands-on activities and manipulative. For the logic and puzzle problems, the students will be given logic problems or puzzles where they will need to look at different pieces of information in order to arrive at an answer. Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello! My name is Olivia Schuster and I am so excited to get to teach you! I taught at a private school for five years: one year in second grade and four years in sixth grade. While teaching sixth grade, I helped pilot and implement a new Common Core curriculum, as well as introduce, teach, and lead the Science Fair for the entire sixth grade. I also created science labs and math activities to help enhance curriculum and meet the standards. I also taught English to Chinese student online for a little over a year, so I am very familiar with teaching students through an video chat format.

Due to a recent move, I am now a stay-at-home mom to my two wonderful daughters, age 3 and age 1. Instead of being just a stay-at-home mom, I like to call myself a stay-at-home teacher. I love teaching and am excited to teach students (other than my own kids) again!

My desire as a teacher is to create a learning environment where students can learn through their own discovery. Through engaging and creative standard based lesson plans I want to instill in my students a passion for learning. My expertise and experience enables me to reach each student at their own level and promote the idea of being a life-long learner while having fun. I am excited to meet you and to teach you very soon!
