What's included
1 live meeting
45 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
US Grade 2
During each week of this Ongoing class, your learner will enjoy a different story with fun characters and compelling escape predicaments. After meeting the character/s and finding out their problem, students will travel together through all of the "skills rooms". Using their advancing math skills (number patterns, addition, subtraction, counting base ten blocks, counting simple coin combinations, telling time, and beginning (picture supported) multiplication under 50, they will unlock the "codes", perform the fitness task, and free the story character/s and resolve the situation. Learners will be given time to complete the codes by recording their answers on an erasable white board or using paper and pencil. SUPPORT WILL BE GIVEN AS NEEDED along the way. Learners will take turns revealing the codes and leading the count for the fitness exercise. Once the code has been unlocked, and the fitness skill is completed, the class will move together to the next "clue" (problem). At several points during the skills practice portion of class, we will check back in with the story characters to celebrate our success in helping them "escape"! EXAMPLES of the FITNESS SKILLS include activities such as: 20 one foot hops 20 jumping jacks twisting 20 X 30 second plank hold 10 toe touches 30 seconds of jogging in place IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a "practice" class, not an initial instruction of skills class. Teacher expertise and credentials
It's exciting for me to teach 3 types of classes to K- 4 students on Outschool (reading, science, and math) because I love teaching each of these subjects so much!
I am a certified reading specialist with a Masters Degree in reading, and have taught in a variety of capacities in public schools. These include kindergarten, first grade, second grade, college reading courses at Chapman University, many years as a School Reading Specialist, and mentor teacher for my former school district. I am now retired, but I just couldn't stop teaching. Every time I saw that school bus heading down the street, my heart would flutter. So I took my teaching online when I discovered Outschool!
One of my unique passions is teaching children about how their amazing brain works. Because of my huge curiosity, fascination and a great deal of self study, I am able to answer common questions kids have about their brain in a fun and interactive way that makes sense to them. Each Brain Warrior class is designed to help children understand the science of their brain and the things they can do to make their brain stronger. Because we actually have more control over our brain than we think!
And finally, I have recently discovered how much I LOVE writing and creating children's stories using graphic design elements. Having read so many wonderful children's stories aloud in my classroom for 34 years it was finally time to create my own! The stories I have written all have an "escape" element to them. And combining my stories with math strategies and exercise . . . the Brain Warriors Escape classes were born!
