The day of the Corn Hollow Costume Contest has finally arrived. The children and their pets are ready to show off their Halloween costume creations. But first, the children must help their pets escape from the corn maze, where they have been trapped by an unhappy Mummy who is trying to ruin Halloween. After meeting the characters and finding out their problem, students will travel together through all of the clues (skills). Using 2 on-screen dice containing a number on each, students will ADD to unlock the "codes" that reveal a fitness task. After performing the exercise the group will work together on the maze that will help free the children's pets so that the Halloween Costume Contest can go on. Students will choose the winner of the Halloween costume contest with their own vote at the end of the story! Learners will be given time to complete the codes by recording their answers on an erasable white board or using paper and pencil. SUPPORT WILL BE GIVEN AS NEEDED along the way. Learners will take turns revealing the codes and leading the count for the fitness exercise. EXAMPLES of the Halloween themed FITNESS SKILLS include activities such as: pumpkin picking squats bumpy toad side to side hops black cat back arches pumpkin rolls spider web spins 20 second spooky tree balance (each leg) magic potions (squat, twist, jump, repeat) IMPORTANT NOTE: This is a "practice" class, not an initial instruction of skills class. Support, strategies, and a little basic instruction is given when needed and when students request help, but the basic concept of addition is needed for registration (no memorized facts required).
Learning Goals
Learners will practice and review early multiplication skills.
Learners will enjoy a story and a call to action.

Teacher expertise and credentials
It's exciting for me to teach 3 types of classes to K- 4 students on Outschool (reading, science, and math) because it's so hard to choose just one!
I am a certified reading specialist with a Masters Degree in reading, and have taught in a variety of capacities in public schools. These include kindergarten, first grade, second grade, college reading courses at Chapman University, many years as a School Reading Specialist, and mentor teacher for my former school district. I am now retired, but I just couldn't stop teaching. Every time I saw that school bus heading down the street, my heart would flutter. So I took my teaching online when I discovered Outschool!
One of my unique passions is teaching children about how their amazing brain works. Because of my huge curiosity, fascination and a great deal of self study, I am able to answer common questions kids have about their brain in a fun and interactive way that makes sense to them. Each Brain Warrior class is designed to help children understand the science of their brain and the things they can do to make their brain stronger. Because we actually have more control over our brain than we think!
And finally, I have recently discovered how much I LOVE writing and creating children's stories using graphic design elements. Having read so many wonderful children's stories aloud in my classroom for 34 years it was finally time to create my own! The stories I have written all have an "escape" element to them. And combining my stories with math skills and exercise . . . the Brain Warriors Escape classes were born!
