This class is an introduction to some of the key ideas in the history of Psychology and Neuroscience, beginning with Phrenology (the idea, now regarded as unscientific, that bumps on the skull can tell us about a person's personality), and journeying through key findings and methods such as Broca's and Wernicke's areas (speech and language brain regions which were found by physicians relating symptoms to post-mortem brain examination); Brodmann's classification of areas of the brain; and...
Students will learn about the development of theories and methods of studying the brain. Students will learn that scientific evidence is required to support or refute a theory.
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The class will mention concepts such as post-mortem examination and dissection, however, there will be NO graphic images shown in the class.
