Class Experience

This class will help your learner improve their verbal skills through instruction and games. Each class will be broken into two parts: Root Talks and Word Games. Learners will gain knowledge of the English language through fun activities which will help them improve their vocabulary and spelling without them even realizing it!

Roots Talks are focused lessons on Greek and Latin word roots. Learners will explore words that share the same root to determine its meaning and then apply what they have learned about the root to new words.

The Word Games portion of class will alternate between several verbal challenges like Wordle (figuring out a 5-letter mystery word), Scattegories (finding words in different categories that start with the same letter), Boggle (finding words by connecting letters in a grid), cryptograms (deciphering a code), and crosswords. These games will be played cooperatively.
***For some games/puzzles, after receiving instruction, learners may work in small groups/breakout rooms to allow for more opportunity to meaningfully participate. I will rotate between breakout rooms making sure learners are on task and providing help, if necessary.***
