Brain Break Social Book Club

In this ongoing course, kids get a brain break to discuss current books they’re reading, use a wacky new word in a hilarious challenge at home, be exposed to new books, discuss the genre of the week, and engage in fun social time.

Class Experience

Students will broaden their vocabulary by using words I guarantee they’ve never heard before. Students will discuss their literary adventures and encourage their peers to explore their selections. Students will be able to engage in some much-needed social time while so many are working on homework online or in school all day. Students will not only explore the titles they are engaged in, but we will also touch on what different genres the texts are and discuss literary features they encounter in their books. My goal for your student is to leave the class feeling relaxed, refreshed and ready to focus on whatever homework they may have or just ready to relax into their evening.

50 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
In order to make sure books we discuss in class are appropriate for the age range specified in the listing of 9-12 years, I ask that parents be familiar with the book their student is bringing to class. Books that are violent in nature, use foul language, use hateful speech, contain anything of a sexual nature should not be brought to this class. Parents should also be aware that each student will interpret books we discuss differently. I will be doing my absolute best to keep the discussions focused. If I feel like a discussion is steering towards a potentially touchy subject, I will change the topic. For this reason, as students book the class and introduce themselves, , I ask that they let me know what book they will be discussing in class prior to our start date so that I mail review as well. We want this class to make everyone welcome.
