Class Experience

In this class, students will take a break from their daily routine to enjoy a fun way to rest their stressed, anxious, and exhausted minds.  Laughing can help our bodies relax by triggering chemical responses in the brain and provide many other benefits.

Benefits of sharing and telling jokes or riddles:
    - an increase in confidence, enthusiasm, optimism
    - develop strong communication and critical thinking skills
    - improve long-term memory
    - increase motivation to achieve goals
    - find joy and happiness
    - willingness to take risks
    - more creativity
    - reduce and cope with stress/anxiety
    - "reset" the mind and body
    - improve social skills

Class schedule:   5 mins.  names and students are from
                          5 mins.   the teacher tells jokes, riddles, shares funny stories, or reads something funny
                          15 mins.   students share time
                            

*All jokes will need to be practiced with a parent before class begins.  Jokes must be age-appropriate and clean.  If the teacher feels the joke is inappropriate for the class, she will immediately interrupt the student and ask for a different "clean" joke.

Hello and Welcome to my Outschool page!  I'm, Amy Miles, from East Texas.  This school year of 2021-22 will be my 26th year as a Texas Certified educator in grades pre-K through 8th grade.  For 23 years, I taught in the Brick and Mortar Texas Public Schools as a kindergarten, 1st, 2nd, and 5th-grade teacher.  I'm excited to start my 3rd year teaching with Outschool as a spelling, photography, and brain break educator.  My grandmother and mom were teachers for over 30 years so I enjoyed spending the many summers and after school helping both of them get their classrooms ready and prepare for their students. I'm so thankful to my grandmother and mom for their support and encouragement to become a teacher.

I'm very passionate about teaching and helping others.  God has blessed me with this gift so that I can share it with others. I received my Bachelor's degree in Interdisciplinary Studies with a specialization in Reading from Texas A&M at Commerce, August 1997. I love finding fun new ways to engage my students and help them learn that anything is possible if you set your mind to it.  I'm constantly researching, learning new methods, attending workshops, or joining educational groups on Facebook to enhance each of my lessons so that my students are receiving a fun quality lesson.

Besides teaching, I'm a Christian, mom, wife, entrepreneur, and pet health/wellness advisor.  My son is a freshman at his school.  My family and I enjoy supporting my son, Kason, in the FFA program, Band, Cross Country/Track Runner, Basketball, and in all his other activities.  At the end of the year 8th-grade graduation, we celebrated Kason's Valedictorian recognition and speech.
