Being able to adapt and be resilient is a necessary skill. However, this can be hard when you're young! In this 8-week small group class, learners will learn about how three parts of the brain (the Prefrontal Cortex, the Hippocampus, and the Amygdala) work and why we can sometimes lose control of our emotions. We will learn about how to regulate emotions and discuss different calming strategies. We will also learn about topics such as: growth mindset, the circle of control, self-awareness, adaptability, and actions vs. consequences. In each class, we will discuss our topic for the day, read a book that goes with our lesson, and use visuals, games, worksheets, practice situations and discussions to strengthen our understanding. There are downloadable documents provided for each day of class (most are optional). These included things such as: Emotion Chart, Calm Down Cards, Choice Sort Worksheet, and a Certificate of Completion given at the end of the course. By the end of this course, learners should have a better understanding of how their brain works, their emotions, and how to manage different situations with simple strategies.
