Class Experience
Students will learn how to control their emotions by gaining a greater understanding of the brain and how it correlates with feelings and reactions. Day 1: We will discuss three different parts of the brain, their jobs, how they connect to our emotions, and different strategies that can be used when we are feeling upset. Students will learn about the amygdala, the prefrontal cortex, and the hippocampus and their jobs within the brain. They will understand what different emotions could look like and how our brain can send stress signals to our body when feeling overly emotional. Students will be able to recognize the sensations their body may produce when dysregulated and identify different calming strategies that can be used to return to a regulated state.
At the end of day 2 a Brain Boss Character worksheet will be introduced. This worksheet will need to be completed before class on day 3. All other worksheets are optional but will be explained each day in class.
2 hours 15 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
