Hello out school parents! My name is Melissa Tidmore and I am so excited to teach your kiddos how to braid! We will begin with the simplest of braids and eventually progress to a 5 strand braid by the end of the lesson. After each braid type is taught, the kids will get to share their creations with the other students and play a fun game! I love for my classes to be interactive and engaging! Braiding is fun and can also be a very valuable skill to know. The kiddos in my class will all need to have yarn or some sort of colorful chord to use in our lesson. I would suggest that they have 5 different colors so that they can stay better organized as we begin to add strands. I will be braiding right along with them and they will see me on two cameras, one on my face and one on my hands. This way they will be able to follow along very well! Mom or dad are also welcome to join the party! I hope to see you in class!
Learning Goals
Students will learn to braid with 2, 3, 4, and 5 strands. Although the skills can be translated to human hair, this is an introduction class and we will not be covering braids on hair or french braids.

Teacher expertise and credentials
Hello, all! My name is Melissa Tidmore, mother of 3 wonderful children and a wife to an awesome husband. I have a degree in Business Administration and my certification in education to teach all subjects grades k-8. I graduated college with the title of "most outstanding student" in the school of business and have always loved school! I worked for 7 years as a public school math and science teacher and 5 more tutoring on an individual and small group basis. My main areas of focus are secondary math, but I have taught all levels. I LOVED teaching in the school system but left the education field to stay home with my children. I have since been homeschooling my own children as well as teaching secondary math in several co-ops in my area. I have taught all grades from K-Algebra 2! I particularly enjoy showing children that subjects such as math are not only applicable but also can be understandable and fun. In class, I often say "math should make sense." I love seeing the "light-bulb moment" for my students and I hope that they also walk away with an enjoyment that they may not have had before.
In addition to my Business degree, I also have a license as a cosmetologist-although it is more of a hobby these days. For a short while, I was in this field full time and still enjoy it as a hobby. I enjoyed creating off-the-wall styles, worked in runways shows and was in a magazine featuring Avante Garde styles. Though I have all but hung up my shears, you will still see me playing with hair any chance I get.
My hobbies include teaching, reading, gardening, doing crafts of all kinds, crochet, hair, and spending time doing anything adventurous and fun with my family. I especially love outdoor activities!
I truly try to have fun in all that I do and I feel that a smile is never wasted. I hope to see you and your student in my class soon!
