Description

Class Experience

Students will be learn how to identify their current self care practices, and learn ways to continue to improve their physical, mental, and emotional wellness.
I am certified k-12 physical education and health teacher. I also have a masters degree in education administration. I teach health and wellness related topics daily for a middle school campus in Houston, Texas. I also coach basketball, football, and track at the middle school level. I have been teaching for 10 years. I have taught over 2,000 students throughout my 10 years. I am married and I have a new born baby. My life experiences coupled with my education and secular background provide the expertise that I need to teach this class.
At the end of each section, the students have a "Self Care Checklist" to complete. 
Day one- Physical Self Care Checklist
Day Two- Mental and Emotional Self Care Checklist

The only materials needed for the course are the two "Self Care Checklist" that will be attached in the classroom section. We will also be playing Kahoot, so the students may want to consider a separate device. It is not necessary as you can also play using the browser on your computer.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
The learners are assessed informally based on their responses to the discussion questions, as well as formally by way of a Kahoot review game that covers the learned information.
1 hour 50 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
This class will address overall physical, mental, and emotional wellness. A sensitive topic that will be discussed in this class is suicide prevention. Statista.com reports that over the last 20 years, the number of boys that committed suicide is more than three times higher than the number of girls. Therefore, I wanted to make sure to include this topic. We will discuss the Suicide Prevention Techniques mentioned on www.bethe1to.com.
