In this 9 week, multi-day book club, we will discuss the assigned readings and complete reading activities that go along with the events of the first four of The Boxcar Children series.

Homework
1-2 hours per week. Students will have reading packets to go along with each chapter to help them understand the content of the book and help them create a character profile of their favorite character of the series to present in the final class.
Assessment
The student will be assessed by their participation in class during games, discussions, their reader's responses completed as homework, and a final presentation at the end of the class.

Class Experience

US Grade 1 - 4
In this class, we will meet and discuss the first four books in The Boxcar Children by Gertrude Chandler Warner. In this class, we will learn about book genres, character traits, story plots, and how to write about what we read through readers' response journals provided by the teacher. This is an interactive class where students will be expected to participate in discussions, play games, write, and participate in other learning activities introduced by the teacher including working on a character profile on their favorite character that they will present at the end of the class during week 9. Students will need to have their own copies of the book that they are reading outside of class time to be ready to participate in the class activities.

Parental Guidance
The children in this story go through unrealistic, and sometimes tragic circumstances, such as orphaned children, disagreements, and mysteries.
Supply List
Students will need a set of The Boxcar Children Books 1-4, notebook, the weekly packets provided by the teacher, a pencil, glue stick, scissors, and something colorful to color or color-code with during class.
