|Booyah!! Totally Get it! Level 6 | Rational Functions, Radical Functions, Exponential Functions & More

A twice a week 25-min per session study on the solving, plotting and analysis of two types of Algebra Two functions --- rational functions, radical functions, and exponential. We continually loop through lessons on both functions in ongoing classes and your learner sticks with it until he/she masters these!

Class Experience

Once a student understands quadratic equations very well, they can apply the concepts they learned in their study of quadratics to many of the other kinds of functions. The following agenda helps to show what will be covered.

Sep 6	-	Sep 12	:	Intro to Rational Functions
Sep 13	-	Sep 19	:	Rational Functions
Sep 20	-	Sep 26	:	Inverse Functions
Sep 27	-	Oct 3	:	Radical Functions
Oct 4	-	Oct 10	:	Exponential Functions
Oct 11	-	Oct 17	:	Logarithm Functions
Oct 18	-	Oct 24	:	Intro to Rational Functions
Oct 25	-	Oct 31	:	Rational Functions
Nov 1	-	Nov 7	:	Inverse Functions
Nov 8	-	Nov 14	:	Radical Functions
Nov 15	-	Nov 21	:	Exponential Functions
Nov 22	-	Nov 28	:	Logarithm Functions

Learning Goals

At the end of this class, your student will be able to do the following:
Explain what a rational function is
Explain the "holes" in the domain
Simplify rational functions
Understand and solve radical functions
Understand and solve exponential functions
Understand and solve logarithm functions

Parental Guidance
The target age is 13-17 years old, but I recognize that some middle school kids and parents will find this an attractive camp choice for their gifted math students who want a preview of what's to come in pre-algebra. If that is you, then know that you are welcome, but remember the target audience and please understand that the teacher will not be slowing the momentum of the class because it's purpose is to refresh the already introduced skills to older kids who just need a refresher. Parents of high schoolers, please make sure your learner understands that this course is reviewing middle school level material. I have taught this material successfully with high school students who have a good sense of humor about having to revisit middle school level material. They thoroughly enjoy and appreciate what they are learning. I have had situations where the parent thought their sixteen year old would benefit from this class, but the high-schooler felt a bit put -out because he/she didn't really need the refresher. If that happens, I'll be sure to reach out to you and help you get him/her into a more challenging class. My goal is to provide that safe space where students who never really mastered these concepts can feel comfortable and accepted when working through these learnings.

I've been certified in the public schools for teaching math in middle and high schools. I received additional certified training for gifted and talented learners. I taught math for sixteen years and I've been a personal SAT tutor for seven years. My students have typically raised their scores between 100 and 300 points. As a chemical engineer and project management professional in the world of business consulting and information technology consulting, I've completed over five levels of college calculus and applied mathematics and used these math and computing skills throughout my career.

The students I have taught had varying learning abilities that ranged from one with pronounced learning disabilities to gifted and talented. When it came to PSAT's and SAT's, each of them with impressive improvements in their scores.

It can be done! I used a focused approach. We honed in on trouble areas, really understood the underlying math concept, and drilled for mastery.
