Homework
Please write an 8-12 sentence paragraph describing a perfect day. Tell what you would do throughout the day. 1. What you would do? 2. What you would eat? 3. Would you include any friends or family in your day? Write complete sentences, but do not worry too much about making it perfect. After all, this is a class to practice and improve! Be prepared to share your writing by reading it out loud or by showing it to the class. In other words, do not write anything private.
Assessment
The student will have an improved and corrected paragraph at the end of class, as well as the notes on the terms and definitions we discussed.

Class Experience

US Grade 9 - 12
In Back to School Boot Camp: High School Basic Grammar, we will review the grammar you forgot, or the grammar you never learned properly. We will focus on very basic grammar knowledge, which will improve your writing skills. After a discussion of key definitions and terms, we will practice identifying grammar errors in small break-out groups. Then as a whole group, we will discuss the corrections. Next we will practice writing specific types of sentences and make corrections as needed. Our last activity will be to correct and rewrite the sample paragraph students are asked to prepare before class.
Learning Goals
Students will be able to:
~define and identify the 9 parts of speech
~define and identify subject and predicate
~define and identify declarative, interrogative, exclamatory, and imperative sentences
~define and identify simple, compound, complex, and compound-complex sentences
~identify and use basic punctuation marks
