Class Experience

US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten
Beginner Level
In this ongoing class, students will learn shapes, patterns, counting, and other basic math skills including addition and subtraction within 10. Each lesson will include an interactive Nearpod lesson, songs, and additional handouts/activities for students to extend their learning at home. 

Skills covered will include the following: 

-Counting and Number Sense
Counting forward and backward from 1 to 20
One-to-one correspondence
Number recognition and identification
Counting objects in a set
Understanding "more" and "less"
Introducing basic concepts of addition and subtraction

-Shapes and Geometry
Recognizing and naming common shapes (circle, square, triangle, rectangle)
Identifying shapes in the environment
Sorting and classifying objects by shape
Exploring symmetry and mirror images
Introduction to basic spatial relationships (above, below, beside, etc.)

-Patterns and Sequences
Recognizing and creating simple patterns (AB, AAB, ABC, etc.)
Extending and completing given patterns
Identifying patterns in everyday objects
Introducing the concept of a sequence
Understanding the difference between repeating and growing patterns

-Basic Arithmetic Concepts
Basic addition and subtraction within 10
Using manipulatives to solve math problems
Introducing the concept of "equal" and "unequal"
Exploring number bonds and combinations
Word problems involving addition and subtraction

-Measurement and Comparison
Comparing and ordering objects by size (biggest, smallest, etc.)
Exploring length, height, and weight using real-world objects
Introduction to concepts of time (days, weeks, months) and simple time-related activities
Understanding basic units of measurement (inch, foot, etc.)

-Introduction to Data and Graphs
Collecting and organizing simple data sets
Creating and interpreting basic graphs (bar graphs and pictographs)
Discussing concepts of "most," "least," and "equal" in relation to data

-Problem Solving and Critical Thinking
Engaging in age-appropriate math puzzles and games
Applying math skills to real-world scenarios
Encouraging logical thinking and reasoning
Fostering a growth mindset towards math challenges

By covering these skills in a structured and engaging manner, the online class aims to provide a strong foundation in mathematics for kindergarten learners, setting them up for success as they progress in their educational journey.

Hi everyone! Welcome to class! I am Miss Kate. I have 15+ years of teaching experience with students ages 2-14 years old. I am passionate about early childhood education and building the foundation for life long learning. My classes will be engaging and focus on a variety of topics including early literacy, early math and life skills. I live in the Pacific Northwest with my husband and 3 (yes, three) big dogs!

I believe in engaging and playful learning and will teach my classes in a fun and interactive way including songs, digital & interactive games, and lots of interaction and opportunities for engagement. 

I am certified to teach K-8 Elementary, K-12 Special Education and Early Childhood Education. In addition, I have a certificate in Child Psychology from Penn Foster, a certificate in Autism Studies from Arizona State University and a certificate in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) from Arizona State University. I love to teach and look forward to meeting your child!
