Description

Class Experience

Students will be able to identify the 6 syllable types and apply that knowledge to spelling and reading words.
Allison Woolley has a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California at Davis. She has homeschooled her children for 12 years and has seen the benefit of teaching syllable types to her own children, specifically the help it gives to struggling spellers and readers. Her experience also includes tutoring English Language Arts to 2nd – 6th graders and teaching faith formation classes to children in pre-K through 8th grade.
A short homework assignment will be posted after each class, giving the learners a chance to practice spelling the syllable types learned in class. If submitted to the teacher, she will reply within 24 hours with feedback. Plan to spend about 10 minutes on homework.
•	pencil & paper OR dry-erase board, marker, & eraser
•	index cards to create flashcards for each syllable type OR one sheet of paper where the learner can note and define each syllable type (based on learner preference)
1 hour 30 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
