Description

Class Experience

At the end of this class, your student will be able to say, "I solve linear equations with improved speed. I can identify several types of test questions I expect to get on linear equations. I know the methodology to handle these test questions.”
I've been certified in the public schools for teaching math in middle and high schools. I received additional certified training for gifted and talented learners. I taught math for sixteen years and I've been a personal SAT tutor for seven years. My students have typically raised their scores between 100 and 300 points. As a chemical engineer and project management professional in the world of business consulting and information technology consulting, I've completed over five levels of college calculus and applied mathematics and used these math and computing skills throughout my career.

The students I have taught had varying learning abilities that ranged from one with pronounced learning disabilities to gifted and talented. When it came to PSAT's and SAT's, each of them with impressive improvements in their scores.

It can be done! I used a focused approach. We honed in on trouble areas, really understood the underlying math concept, and drilled for mastery.
No homework will be assigned for this class.
Paper, pencil, and a brain ready for thinking fun!
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
The learner's progress is assessed by how well the learner participates in the interactions during class.
25 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 0 - 1 hours per week outside of class.
Necessary prerequisite knowledge:
Students should be able to solve linear equations with reasonable speed. If this is something you student needs practice on, you can enroll him/her in Boom! Nailed It! Algebra Topic 1: Solving Linear Equations.

Students should also know the terminology around linear equations such as slope, intercept, independent variable and dependent variable and be able to interpret what these mean in the context of a word problem. If your student needs help in this area, you can enroll him/her in this class: Boom! Nailed It! Algebra Topic 2: Interpreting Linear Equations.

Students should also know how to read a linear equation word problem and understand it well enough to build the linear equation and solve. If your student needs help in this area, you can enroll him/her in this class: Boom! Nailed It! Algebra Topic 3: Linear Equation Word Problems
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
