Class Experience

Let's go to France and help Nancy solve a mystery!

The Mystery of the 99 Steps was my first and favorite Nancy Drew book ever. I am so very excited to be experiencing it anew.

In this class we will cover the topics of: setting, characters, plot, critical analysis.

Students will read the chapters before class time and come to class ready to discuss.

During class students will volunteer to do an oral narration of the chapter. We will discuss unfamiliar/interesting vocabulary in the context of the reading. There will be specific questions for each chapter as well as general questions that cover the elements of a story. Students will share their favorite parts and their opinions. Questions are leveled from simple recall to more complex and higher leveled thinking. Discussion and interaction are welcome!

Some classes will have an in class activity to complete. These range from a picture to draw to writing an alternative ending.
There may be optional after class activities to complete.

It is helpful for students to be skilled at reading, however, students may also have chapters read to them by an adult..

Here is the breakdown of chapters. Please have these chapters read before class. No peeking! ;)

Session 1: Chapters 1 & 2
Session 2: Chapters 3, 4 & 5
Session 3: Chapters 6, 7 & 8
Session 4: Chapters 9, 10 & 11
Session 5: Chapters 12, 13 & 14
Session 6: Chapters 15, 16 & 17
Session 7: Chapters 18, 19, & 20
