Description
Class Experience
This class is taught in English.
For students to gain confidence in sharing their thoughts and opinions, gain a love of reading and literature, as well as gardening.
I am originally from Britain, and as a child, I went around many stately homes. My parents were both born in the 1930s, and my mum's stories of WWII allowed me to see history in such a different way. I have taken many classes in history, and my love for literature has grown over the years, that I would love to share this love to allow students to see that history and literature can be fun to learn.
Each week students will read/ listen to about 5 chapters. The time it will take will vary on the reading speed of each student.
The physical book or audio for The Secret Garden.
45 minutes per week in class, and an estimated 2 - 4 hours per week outside of class.
Mary's parents both die and she is sent to her uncle's estate. This book deals with death, grief, learning how to deal with anger in a positive way, and new beginnings. Racism is brought up in this book but will be addressed as to how unacceptable this is, and we will focus on the main story of Mary finding an enchanted garden and the healing that comes from the magic that is found in that garden.
