In this four session class, students gain reading comprehension and fluency by joining A.J. and his classmates for some Halloween hijinks. Our last class meeting will include a special Halloween celebration that builds executive function.

Class experience

Students will gain fluency and comprehension by reading and discussing the novel. Students will practice organizing and communicating their ideas using graphic organizers, creative writing, and other strategies.

"It's Halloween, I'm Turning Green" by Dan Gutman is required for this class. Students may use e-books, hardcopy and paperbacks, or audiobooks to read and comprehend the text.

Handouts will be uploaded in into the Outschool classroom before some sessions.

Paper, markers or colored pencils, and pens or pencils are great to have on hand for class activities.

Post-It notes are recommended for the last class session.

Students are invited to wear their Halloween costume to the last class session as well as bringing a Halloween treat to eat during our activity time if they wish.
In addition to the Outschool classroom, this class uses:
In our class we will review using Kahoot! and may use collaborative Google Docs to share our ideas.
Students will need their own copy of "It's Halloween, I'm Turning Green" by Dan Gutman. Students are welcome to read the book in hard copy or on e-book or audio book. Text to Speech accompanied by reading can be a good strategy for dyslexic learners as enlarging the print in e-book format.
