Books, Bricks, and Buddies - A Read-Aloud and Building Club
What's included
1 live meeting
30 mins in-class hours per weekClass Experience
In this ongoing STEM class, students will listen to an interactive read-aloud and then build a brick challenge that relates to the story. During the read-aloud, we will stop to work on comprehension skills. Students will have the opportunity to practice skills such as visualizing, retelling, main idea & details, sequencing, determining author's purpose, critiquing, and more. After the story, students will have time to socialize with friends while building a brick creation using Legos, Duplos, or other brick blocks to go with the challenge. This is not a step-by-step building class. This class encourages children to create their own designs based on sample pictures of brick designs. At the end of class, students will have a show and tell time to show off their creation. This is a great class for building vocabulary and would be a good fit for young children and ESL learners. *This is an ongoing class - students may join at any time* Week of January 10 - The Biggest Snowman Ever by Steven Kroll Week of January 17 - Flip and Flop by Dawn Apperly Week of January 24 - Chicken Little by Laura Rader Week of January 31 - Nugget and Fang by Tammi Sauer and Michael Slack Week of February 7 - Barnyard Banter by Denise Flemming Week of February 14 - The Biggest Valentine Ever by Steven Kroll Week of February 21 - The Wild Toboggan Ride Suzan Reid and Eugenie Fernandes Week of February 28 - You are the Best Present by Janet Bingham and Rosalind Beardshaw Week of March 7 - Rumble in the Jungle by Giles Andreae Week of March 14 - I know An Old Lady Who Swallowed a Clover by Lucille Colandro *sessions will be added when these sessions are complete*
