US Grade Pre-Kindergarten - 2
In this weekly class, students will listen to a new children's picture story each week and use their imagination to make their own building block creation that connects to the story! We'll use our imaginations to connect literacy learning with playtime, and have time for show and tell! Using stories with play time is a great way to encourage creative, independent play at home! *You can come and go as you need as this class does not build on itself each week, it's just a new story each week* What you can expect in class: - Bring your building block stash and a work space to build a new creation! - Students will listen to a story, be given ideas to help make a creation that connects to the story, have about 10 minutes to build, and be given time to share their creation at the end of class. - Your child will work on motor skills, creative thinking skills, listening skills, story telling to narrate their creation, and public speaking skills to present their project to the class - We hope to build an encouraging community of friends giving suggestions if needed What I will help with during this class: - I will read a new story each week - I will help guide students to create their own imaginary creation that connects to the story - I will give students approx. 10-15 minutes to build their creation - I will ask questions on what they are working on and offer feedback or suggestions if needed - I will guide group discussion by allowing all students to share their creation and ask questions - I will encourage students to practice speaking to the group using descriptive words (size, color, purpose, etc.) of their project SCHEDULE: Week of 6/20: How to Catch a Daddysaurus by Alice Walstead (dinosaurs - Father's Day!) Week of 6/27: Pete the Cat and the Missing Cupcakes by Kimberly & James Dean (food) Week of 7/4: No Class due to the 4th of July holiday Week of 7/11: Daniel's Good Day by Micha Archer (neighborhood) Week of 7/18: Read to Tiger by S.J.
