Book Project for a Book of Your Choice- "Make It a Movie"

In this 5 week course, your student will read a book of their choice. We will meet and discuss the key elements of the book as we go. Students will then complete a book project to plan what a movie of the book would be like!

Class experience

US Grade 2 - 5
** Time management and project planning
** Goal setting
** The important aspects of different genres.
** What makes a character essential to a story and discuss the importance of the major characters in the story
** Character traits vs physical traits and brainstorm a list of the traits of the characters in our books
** The organization an author uses and how the author builds excitement over the course of the book
** The "turning point" in a story and how important that part of the story is.
** What makes a good review of a book.
** The importance of including key details in the review of a book.
** Presentation skills
** Active listening skills

I am a K-8 certified teacher and have taught in public school for the last 15 years
I am highly qualified in ELA (Reading and Grammar) 
I have a Master's Degree in Learning and Technology (course work on online learning and projects)
Homework Offered
Students will be required to read the book on their own and follow the timeline established in the first class. (This will be shared with the adult that signed the child up for the course.) Week 1-- Reading Only Week 2- Complete the genre and characters portion of the project and reading Week 3- Complete the storyline portion of the project (some will need to wait until the student has finished the book but they will get most done here) and reading Week 4- Complete the project
1 - 2 hours per week outside of class
Assessments Offered
Parents have the option of their child receiving a formal grade for the project, this is based on a rubric that will be shared with the student before they begin the project.
Grades Offered
Students will have a chapter book of their choice.
Students need to have either PowerPoint or a Google Drive account to complete the project.

I will provide the template for the final project
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
Parents will need to help their students select a book, the teacher is available to help.
Parents should be aware of what is in the presentation before the student presents it to the class.
