Class Experience

US Grade 8 - 11
Some of us love reading so much, we've been called "bookworms", "bibliophiles", "avid readers", or even "nerds". But to those of us who love all things books, those names don't really scratch the surface.

If you:
-make lists of books to read next
-make lists of books you've already read
-have a favorite genre or two
-read from a wide variety of genres
-love words and phrases and beautifully written prose
-research authors and settings
-want to travel to the places in the books you've read
-collect bookmarks
-love to sit in a bookstore for hours on end

. . . then you are a book person, no matter what that's called!

Each week we'll get together and discuss the books we're reading, why we like them, why we've set them aside (if we didn't like them), what we've learned from the authors, how we feel about the plot and storylines, and all things book-related.

I'll have questions to get our chat going, book-related activities and resources, and lots of time for you to tell us about what you're reading right now. You will have the opportunity to acquaint us with your favorite books, and even present us with a book report if you like. This is your group, with your people.

Fair warning: We go off topic a lot, but we also really enjoy learning about each other's lives and interests.

Note: Because this is a discussion-based meeting, classes will be canceled if there are fewer than 2 registered learners. You will be notified in advance.
Learning Goals
Students will have the opportunity to discuss literature. While they're building vital social skills, they'll also learn about books, authors, and genres they might not have previously been aware of. Projects will focus on literature analysis, history, biography, vocabulary, the world of publishing, and film making as it pertains to literature and writing.

Many of my learners have expressed a desire to have a safe place where they can come and discuss their love of books. As a lifelong bibliophile, this makes my heart happy! I'll bring my background in literature and knowledge of authors to the discussion, and together we'll enjoy a happy weekly meeting of all things books.
