⚜️ Welcome to the Book Dragons' Lair! ⚜️ 📚 Each month we will focus on one teen or YA book, and have a wide variety of activities to enjoy the monthly reading. This class is ideal for your learner who loves to read or is beginning to enjoy reading, but needs a bit more time to go through a book. This is also for learners who want to take their time reading, and find likeminded book dragons (not worms!) to discuss their favorite books. 📚 We will not be reading aloud during class time, but learners are free to share their favorite parts or quotes. Have a book you want to read? Let me know! I am open to adding a book to the schedule. 📆 Schedule for 2025: January ~ Red Queen by Victoria Aveyard Week of January 5 ~ Introduction to the characters Round Table Roleplay Week of January 12 ~ Discussion of their favorite characters and quotes Roll and Retell Game Week of January 19 ~ Analyzing Mare's world Fan art day (digital or physical artwork) Week of January 26 ~ Who said it? game (Wrapping up the book!) Schedule is subject to change. While this is a structured club, I am open to learner book suggestions and am open to changing the FOLLOWING month's book. Once the month has begun and learners are enrolled with the book, we will not change the CURRENT month's book.
Learning Goals
Learners will read one book per month and meet once a week to discuss the book.
We will go over any unfamiliar vocabulary or concepts.
Other Details
Learning Needs
Please let me know if your learner has any unique learning needs. I am more than happy to accommodate.
Parental Guidance
While we will be keeping discussions appropriate to the Outschool classroom, please be aware that some topics might be fairly heavy for younger learners as this book club will be focusing primarily on teen and YA books. I highly recommend referring to Common Sense Media, if you would like a breakdown on the elements found in the book-of-the-month. Please feel free to reach out to me if you have any doubts or questions regarding the club.
Pre-Requisites
This is a book club for teens. As such, there may be discussions on weightier topics than a book club for younger learners. We will not discuss topics not permitted by the Outschool platform, but parent discretion advised.
Supply List
Learner will need their own copy of the book of the month. That may be in digital or print format. I will not provide copies of the books.
External Resources
Learners will not need to use any apps or websites beyond the standard Outschool tools.
