In this class, students will video chat as well as discuss in the Outschool classroom weekly. We will read 1-3 chapters together, but students will also have homework of reading on their own.We will use different graphic organizers to help students comprehend the story. Every week after our video chat, there will be a discussion question posted for learners to answer. We will interact by chatting in discussions on the Outschool site before the next video chat. This is how students will be assessed if they have read the assigned chapters for homework. Students can also ask me questions at anytime! Each session will start by going over a way to organize thoughts, facts, and go over any questions on chapters they have read for homework. We will set up our graphic organizers together so that we are keeping track of the knowledge we learn from the reading. Throughout our video chat, I will stop our reading to ask a questions or spark a conversation about the reading to see where learns are at in their comprehension of the story. We will spend session time reading about 1-3 chapters together. Then, we will discuss for 15 minutes. In the last five minutes, I will go over the homework. After every session, I will post the homework and discussion question for the week that they will complete before our next session. The end of the class, we will have an assessment question that we will discuss to see how well they are able to comprehend the book.
