Class Experience

In "Book & Cook Club: Pete the Cat Halloween Story + Healthy Pumpkin Treat Party!", students will engage in an interactive book club based on a Halloween-themed book in the Pete the Cat series, "Pete the Cat: Five Little Pumpkins". The class will culminate in a healthy clementine & celery pumpkin treat making and eating party! This is a multidisciplinary course emphasizing English language and culinary skills; fine motor skills will also be practiced while peeling our clementines on Day 2. Please note that adult guidance is recommended for Day 2. Students will learn through a combination of teacher read alouds, peer discussions and teacher-led activities.

Through the use of live video meetings (including hands-on activities), printable resources and lively conversations, students will delve into the groovy world of Pete the Cat.

Class time will be structured in the following way:

Day 1: Students should come to class with their listening ears on. Class expectations and schedules will be reviewed. We will take a "book walk", previewing the text as a group. Before class ends, we will read the entire book together. While reading the book, teacher will lead students through discussions of the Pete the Cat book. We'll work together to answer comprehension questions & discuss opinions of the story. Student questions are always welcomed and encouraged.
Required homework after Day 1 class concludes: with adult, prep all needed ingredients (page 2 in the attached class file) for our clementine & celery pumpkin treat making and eating party

Day 2: Prior to attending Day 2, students should work with an adult to prepare all needed ingredients (page 2 in the attached class file) for our clementine & celery pumpkin treat making and eating party! We will combine these ingredients during class and make our own homemade clementine & celery pumpkins!

Throughout the course of this 2-day class, students will enjoy an engaging picture book, learning how to organize and speak about their thoughts, and safely preparing delicious, healthy clementine & celery pumpkins to enjoy.
