Class Experience

In this multi-day, book club class, learners will read the novel Wonder by R.J. Palacio. We will be taking a deeper look into the themes and messages of this book. We will talk about character development and the emotions and feelings of the main characters. Wonder is a powerful book about accepting people for who they are and choosing to be kind to everyone, no matter what their differences. We will be discussing how we can take the messages from this book and apply them to our own lives. Students will get a chance to read aloud a part of a chapter in each class while I join along in the reading. I will be asking questions to check for comprehension of the book. In the last class, we will be comparing the movie and the book. Students will share their thoughts on the movie and whether or not they think it is a good representation of the novel.

As there is a lot of material to cover and talk about, we will be meeting once a week for 8 weeks. There will be two PDF worksheets provided that will help students with comprehension of the book's theme. Homework is stated in each class's description below.
