Description
Class Experience
I am an elementary library, art, and music teacher. Before that, I was the producing artistic director of a youth theater, doing musicals with kids and teens for the past 20 years (Matilda is also a Broadway Musical). I am also a freelance teaching artist throughout the NYC and NJ area teaching all ages from kindergarten through graduate students in the arts, writing, history, and literature. In 2018, I received my doctorate in Literary Studies with a musical theater scholarly dissertation.
There is no assignment before the first class. Please read the following for the subsequent classes: Before meeting 2: read chapter 1 to the end of chapter 11 Before meeting 3: read chapter 12 to the end of chapter 22 Before meeting 4: read chapter 23 to the end of chapter 33 Before meeting 5: read chapter 34 to the end of chapter 44 Before meeting 6: read chapter 45 to the end!
We will be reading "When You Reach Me" By Rebecca Stead- any version will do.
40 minutes per week in class, and maybe some time outside of class.
Parents need to know this time-traveler novel features the death of a man who is hit by a truck in front of the main character. It also addresses a girl's fear of a homeless man near her New York City apartment and touches on racism. The main character's friend is punched in the stomach by another boy for no apparent reason.
