Join Dorothy, Toto, Ms. Carol, and friends in this once weekly, 5 week book club as we’re whisked away from home, and transported to the magical kingdom of Oz in this delightful, enchanting classical story! Young Dorothy and her little dog Toto are whisked away from their home by a tornado and transported to the magical kingdom of Oz. She meets the now-famous characters of the cowardly lion, the tin woodman, the brainless scarecrow, and other unforgettable characters. Dorothy cannot return...
Students will gain skills in the following areas: - public speaking - taking turns speaking - practicing active listening - sharing thoughts and insights - building vocabulary - exploring the characters, settings, and plot
Ms. Carol has been a voracious reader since childhood. Her lifelong passion is to cultivate curiosity in children, and to inspire a lifelong love of learning, especially the reading and enjoyment of beautiful literature! Ms. Carol has a PhD in pedagogy and history, with a Master’s in Cultural Studies. One of my core values is to teach children to think critically, and to apply that to everything they read.

Students will need a copy of the book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. The assigned chapters must be read or listened to BEFORE class. Students can use their own books, library books, ebooks, or even listen to the audio books. If listening to the audiobooks, it is highly recommended that student reads independently to develop their own reading comprehension and competency.
