Join Dorothy, Toto, Ms. Carol, and friends in this once weekly, 5 week book club as we’re whisked away from home, and transported to the magical kingdom of Oz in this delightful, enchanting classical story! Young Dorothy and her little dog Toto are whisked away from their home by a tornado and transported to the magical kingdom of Oz. She meets the now-famous characters of the cowardly lion, the tin woodman, the brainless scarecrow, and other unforgettable characters. Dorothy cannot return home until she has defeated the Wicked Witch of the West, but will she be able to do so? The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, by L. Frank Baum, is a timeless classic, best known for the movie interpretation of the story. In our home, we love to read the book first and watch the movie at the end. I can’t wait to share this timeless classic with your students! In this multi-day club, we will meet once weekly for 5 weeks to dive deep. During club time, full participation in discussion is expected. There is grace for a shy student, of course, but students will be encouraged to dive into the discussion as they acclimate to the group. Each student will have a turn to share their thoughts and ideas. I will have questions and discussion prompts ready each week, should conversation lag. After our discussion time, we will end with a game if time permits! My book clubs are typically highly engaging, highly interactive, very lively! Chapters will be assigned to be read ahead of time, beforehand. There are 12 chapters in this book. The book is also available as an audiobook! All of our time together will be dedicated to discussing the books, applying critical thinking, discussing characters, plot, and other literary aspects, designing a book cover, and ending with a fun game, all related to the book. Students will need a copy of the book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L. Frank Baum. The assigned chapters must be read or listened to BEFORE class. Students can use their own books, library books, ebooks, or even listen to the audio books. If listening to the audiobooks, it is highly recommended that student reads independently to develop their own reading comprehension and competency.
